Profile

Kosuke Masuda is a Buddhist monk of the Kōyasan Shingon-shū tradition, originally from Yokohama, Japan. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, in 2004. The following year, he entered monastic training at Kōyasan, completing his ordination as a monk in 2005.

Alongside his spiritual path, Kosuke has continued his work as an artist, exhibiting widely and collaborating with magazines and bicycle companies. His art practice is deeply intertwined with the motif of bicycles, through which he explores themes of motion, memory, and everyday presence. Employing a range of techniques—from metal engraving and ink painting to patina work—he creates pieces that blend materiality with metaphor.

Together with his wife, Kei Hompo, Kosuke seeks to capture and express both his own inner reflections and the unspoken thoughts of others, across various mediums and modes of expression.
